Climate change is an issue that is effecting everyone in the world right now. Since 1880 to 2012 the global temperature has risen 0.85 Celsius and as time goes on it doesn't seem like that number is going down anytime soon. Already seas have risen 19 cm causing a lot of land to go under water and further tainting the greatest source of freshwater on earth, our ice caps.
To solve this problem we need to get the whole world on board with CO2 conserving plans so we can slow down our greenhouse gas output until the world can naturally process it through trees and other plants. To do this we need to prove without a doubt that climate change exists and is a problem. For this we can conduct a simple experiment proving that several aspects of climate change are actually happening. The Hypothesis of this experiment would probably be: As time goes on the avg. world temperature increases, ocean levels rise and ice caps shrink. The independent variable of this experiment would be time and the dependent variables would be ocean level, avg. world temperature, and ice cap size.

Success and failure are two things that on first glance seem to have nothing to do with one another. However really, without experiencing failure, how can you have success? Currently in my life I feel that I am, so far, successful. I have all A's in school and a clean record. It feels as if I'm on the fast track to success which I define as happiness in your adult life with a nice job and stable income. But, in reality it is my failures that have helped me become this way.
My past failures, when I lost games and made bad grades, have helped me improve my weak points and strengthen myself to try and reach my end goal, success. In 10 years I will hopefully still be in Grad. school trying to get a higher degree in whatever field I decide to focus on. In order to get there I will need to make good grades and keep my options open. I should work hard and take a variety of classes so that I can narrow my definition of success and form a more specific goal for my future. In the next couple of weeks in Sci. Vis. we will be using the TI SensorTag to collect data from around our school and display it in an effective manner. An idea for a way to use the SensorTag would be to collect data on the temperature of different rooms around the school and compare their average temperature. This could help the school learn were there might be problems in the heating or cooling units of the school. It would also be useful for knowing which classes you need to bring your big bulky coat to in order to stay warm.
There are however some key limitations to the TI SensorTag. One of these is the tendency for it to shut down certain sensors when its battery life runs low. A way to get around this is to only use it in short bursts and not to leave the SensorTag on over extended periods of time. Another key weakness is its disability to store data on your phone. This means we will have to be present with it as it records data so we can write it down as it is passed through our phones. |
